Counseling and advising support is available to students who would like help in achieving their academic and career goals. A counselor is available to assist students in the following areas: 

  • Exploring career and educational choices
  • Choosing a major
  • Improving academic success skills
  • Academic advising for new and undecided students
  • Coping with emotional stress
  • Problem solving/goal setting

Counseling & Advising

Student Success Counseling - Is available in areas such as study skills, learning styles, orientation to academic work, goal setting, time management and test anxiety.

Personal Counseling – Short-term individual counseling is provided to help students maintain academic success.  Personal counseling issues may include personal development and adjustment issues such as stress management, loss and grief, emotional stress, and interpersonal communication skills.

Career Counseling – Is available on an individual basis and may help a student clarify their goals, learn the career-planning process, interpret assessment results and learn career research skill, decision-making skill and job search skills.  Individual career assessments are available to enable students to identify their career interest, learning styles and personality type.  There is a small fee to cover the assessment costs.

Crisis Counseling – Individual short-term intervention may be provided for student suffering from acute emotion stress.

Referral – On-campus referrals and off campus referral to community services and mental health agencies.

Consultation – Consultation is available to faculty, staff and administration on related student development and retention issues, including in-service training and class presentations.

Academic Advising - Is available for undecided students or students that are confused or needing help with the academic process.  If a student has decided on an academic major, they will be directed to an appropriate academic department.

CONFIDENTIALITY – Your counselor cannot disclose any information you have told her during a counseling session except under particular circumstance as cited by the Revise Codes of Washington on (RCW18.19.180) The counselor can review this information with you during your appointment.
