A Golden Bird

Autumn E. Adams

Fine Art

This was inspired by my love of making origami and a story I read about a young Japanese girl named Sadako Sasaki. She had survived the bombing of Hiroshima at the age of two only to succumb to leukemia later. Sadako learned of the legend of folding 1,000 cranes to bring healing, she had folded 644 before she passed away at 12 years old. Sadako’s friends and family completed the thousand cranes and three years later a Children’s Peace Monument was created in her memory near the site where the Atomic bomb was dropped.
