Title: Guys Are Like Breakfast Cereals

Major: Associate of Technical Arts: Multimedia Web Design

Description:

Guys Are Like Breakfast Cereals’ was inspired by a comment the teacher had said when we were given the assignment to write a comparative essay in English 98.

It finally dawned on me, while I was in the cereal aisle at the grocery store with my children, that guys are like breakfast cereals. If you break down the types of cereals, there are sugary cereals, healthy cereals, the “kid tested, mother approved” types, or a variety of hot cereals; with a little imagination, this breakdown of cereals sound just like guys.

If you ask any kid what cereal they prefer, they will choose a sugary cereal. There are ones that moms cringe over the sugar content and the health benefits are added artificially. Fruit Loops, Cocoa Puffs, or any other brightly colored cereal will fall into this category.

These are the eye candy guys: young and great looking.

The problem is, while they maybe taste great, they lack substance. You know what I am talking about if you ever thought dating anymore much younger or older than you are. Conversations are very superficial, almost like talking to the checker about the spill on aisle nine. But then these relations are usually not about talking. Though, you may find a toy suprise included in the package.

The direct opposite of these cereals are your healthy ones. No child will pick an All-Bran, Grape-Nuts of any other cereal that taste like cardboard or breaks your tooth during your first bite. These types of cereals are doctor approved for your health. These are guys who may not being very exciting, and may be just plain dull, but will get a two thumbs up from “dear old dad”. Employed, house, and money in the back just adds to the health of the relationship.

So, if you blend the two above together, you get your “kid tested, mother approved” cereals. These are cereals that while they do contain sugar and a few artificial ingredients are actually made with real ingredients, too. Kix are made of corn, Honey Nut Cheerios are made of oats, and Raisin Bran adds enough sugar to the wheat to taste good; though, your child may pick out most of the raisins. These guys are fun enough to be accepted by your kids and stable enough to get at least one thumbs up.

There is an over looked cereal in the aisle, too. Do you remember those cereals of a past generation, Cream of Wheat, Quaker Oatmeal, and other whole grains? My kids do know about the instant oatmeal in a packet with flavors and colors of the rainbow, but these are not the ones I am talking about. These are guys with real staying power so you are not left hungry later in the day. If you add your own sugar (love) and a few nuts (kids), this cereal is really quite delicious. Now this is an ad campaign that you can really go for.

And did I mention that these cereals are hot, too?

Sometimes you should let your kids pick out the cereal, other times you should take a recommendation, or use a coupon for a great deal. But in matters of the heart, you really should choose the right one for you because this is a cereal that is meant to last a lifetime, and you don't want it to go stale.
