Grade Exclusion

EvCC Grading Policies

A returning student may petition for a grade exclusion after being absent for at least one calendar year, and request all their grades that were earned prior to their absence be excluded from GPA calculation. This policy is designed for students who had difficulty (generally characterized by grades below C or 2.0) in their early quarter(s), left the College, returned later and demonstrated improved academic achievement.

In order to be eligible for grade exclusion, the student must meet the following criteria:

  • Stopped attending EvCC for at least one calendar year.
  • Returned to EvCC after one year of absence and earned at least 30 EvCC credits.
  • Have a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA since returning.

Only exclusion of all grades in the terms prior to absence will be considered. Petition to exclude single courses within a term or single terms will not be considered.

If all the above crieteria is met, Request for Grade Exclusion must be submitted to Enrollment Service via email at registration@everettcc.edu, or in person at Parks Student Union (PSU) Room 201.

If approved, all courses and grades up to the point of the absence will be excluded. The courses and grades will still show on the transcript, but will not be used in the calculation of GPA. Excluded courses may not be used to meet graduation requirements. Students should be aware that other institutions may not honor such grade exclusions in the GPA calculations. This process cannot be used to circumvent either EvCC’s course repeat course policy or standards of academic progress. Courses for which grades are excluded cannot be used to meet graduation requirements. Students should be aware that other institutions might not honor such grade exclusions in computing grade point averages for admission or transfer.
