Returning Students

Welcome back! Many things have changed at EvCC. We continue to strive to make your learning experience enriched and rewarding. As a returning student, you may have questions about where you should begin to continue along your educational path.

Get Started Steps for Returning Students

1. Do you need to re-apply?

If you have not attended EvCC within the last four quarters, you must re-apply.

Start your online admission application!

Please note that once you receive your letter of admission, you may need to activate your ctcLink account if you have not attended EvCC since before Fall 2021 or if you have attended another ctcLink school.

2. Explore our Educational Pathways

If it has been some time since you last attended, you may want to explore our Pathways and Programs. Our college is always changing.

3. Find Ways to Pay for College

Don't miss out on funding opportunities.

4. Need to speak with an advisor?

Returning students are encouraged to contact the Entry Advising Center for assistance returning to EvCC. The Entry Advising Center offers drop-in advising each business day. Counselors are also available by appointment in Counseling and Student Success for advising and support in returning to college.

Returning students can check the college credits they have earned while attending EvCC by obtaining their unofficial transcript online. Being prepared when you meet with an advisor will make returning to EvCC a smoother process. Make sure you have a copy of your test scores, your transcript, a list of Important Dates and Deadlines, and have reviewed information about your Pathway.

Have your requirements changed?

Degree and certificate requirements change periodically.

If it has been longer than 12 months since you last attended Everett Community College and you need more credits to complete your degree or certificate, you must satisfy the degree/program requirements as published in the EvCC Catalog for the year you return. Updated graduation requirements may include the College Success class that has been required for most EvCC degrees since Winter 2017.

Students who do not complete their degree or certificate within 5 years from initial enrollment may be subject to updated requirements. Students are strongly encouraged to check with an advisor to confirm their remaining degree requirements. The Entry Advising Center can assist you in getting assigned to a program advisor if you do not have one.

Former students who have already completed degree or certificate requirements, but were not previously awarded their degree, may need to meet with an advisor to complete the application for graduation. Students who do not require more credits to complete only need to fulfill the degree or certificate requirements that were in place at the time of completion.

5. Register and pay for classes

If you have been away from EvCC for more than four quarters, you will be able to register for classes during open registration. Visit Important Dates and Deadlines for open registration dates and other deadlines that you'll need to know.

If you have attended EvCC within the past year, you don't need to reapply, but you may need to activate your ctclink account before registering for classes.

FAQs and answers to assist you in getting started

Do I have to take a placement test?

If you have previously tested and have completed your college-level algebra and English composition, you do not need to test. If you have tested and never taken classes, test scores are valid for two years. You can view your test scores online via ctcLink or email testing@everettcc.edu for more information. If you are still unsure, we recommend speaking with an adviser.

I began at EvCC and transferred to another school. Will EvCC accept the classes I completed at my other school?

EvCC will evaluate your transcripts from your other schools. An advisor will be able to look at your unofficial transcript and tell you with a reasonable amount of certainty what classes will apply to your designated degree or certificate goals. However, EvCC will need an official transcript in order to complete an official evaluation. Official transcripts should be submitted to the office of Enrollment Services with the proper form.

I took classes many years ago and have now decided to finish my degree. Do credits expire?

While typically credits do not expire, certain programs require students to complete credits within a window of time. Check with your advisor for the correct determination. Don't forget to check about other options for prior learning assessment, too!

I tested at another institution. Will EvCC accept those scores?

EvCC will generally accept test scores from another institution, provided they are within the scope of two years. EvCC administers the Accuplacer test but will review scores for Asset. Be aware that EvCC will make a determination of placement based on our scoring guidelines, so what one school may have scored as placement in a particular class may not be the same at EvCC.

Do I need to complete the Mandatory Orientation?

If you have at least one transcripted class here at EvCC, you generally do not need to complete orientation when you return, but you find the online self-paced orientation session informative and can repeatedly return to it to find answers to questions.

I have already earned a degree, but have never attended EvCC. Do I need to complete placement testing, mandatory orientation, and create a degree plan?

If you hold a degree, you probably will not need to complete placement testing. EvCC will request a copy of your degree or an unofficial transcript with your degree posted. You will need to supply us with this information along with a test waiver form. You will be advised whether your waiver was approved; allow four to five business days for processing. All first-time students at EvCC must complete mandatory orientation. If you are a nondegree-seeking student and plan on taking a class or two, you probably will not need to complete a degree plan. If in doubt, check with the Counseling and Student Success office.
