Student Spotlight - Isabella Hensley

Isabella Hensley

What did you study at EvCC?
I attended the EvCC School of Cosmetology in Marysville and completed my Cosmetology certificate in June. I am taking three business classes this quarter to complete my Associate in Technical Arts for Cosmetology. I also took the Washington state licensing exams to get my Washington state Cosmetology license.

Why did you choose EvCC?
I chose EvCC because it was close to me and affordable. I come from a low-income family, and I did not want to put my parents in debt to send me through college. EvCC is affordable enough to allow me to go to college!

How did your EvCC Foundation scholarship help you?
My EvCC Foundation scholarship helped me immensely. With my scholarship and financial aid, I was able to focus 100% on school and didn’t have to balance work and school. This allowed me to give my schooling 100% and helped me to get good grades!

What do you want your scholarship donor(s) to know?
I want my scholarship donor(s) to know how much I value and appreciate them. They are changing the lives of EvCC students and allowing us to follow our dreams.

Who helped you succeed at EvCC? (faculty member, staff). What did that person do to help you?
All the cosmetology instructors helped me out a lot. Jazmine McDonald is a new cosmetology instructor, but she is absolutely amazing! She is so kind and understanding, and she wants to help all her students succeed.

What advice do you have for new EvCC students?
Do NOT procrastinate is probably the most important piece of advice for new EvCC students. Set a schedule for when to do your work and just get it done!

Isabella HensleyWhat do you plan to do next? (Job, transfer, etc.)
This fall, I started a business administration degree at EvCC. I found a salon in July and am assisting there. I'm doing hair part time while taking business classes.

Describe the best experience you had at EvCC.
The best experience I had at EvCC was when my best friend made me a gift basket for my last day of cosmetology school. You need to complete 1730 hours for your cosmetology license. On the day I was completing my hours, my friend brought me a balloon and all kinds of gifts for my last day. It made me feel really happy and appreciated.

Anything else you want to add?
Thank you and everyone involved with the EvCC Foundation so much for all your hard work! You are changing lives and making dreams come true!
