Student Spotlight - Jeff Koglin

Why did you choose Everett Community College?

I was inspired by my vocational counselor in choosing EvCC. I had looked at several other colleges and the programs they offered and was impressed with Everett.

What degrees and/or certificates did you earn?

I earned a two-year associates degree specializing in computer aided drafting, earning several certificates which include Robotics Foundations, Advanced Manufacturing Tech-CAD, Manufacturing Pre-Employment, and Fanuc Cert Handling Tool Operations and Programming.

How are the skills you learned at EvCC's Advanced Manufacturing Education & Training Center (AMTEC) helping you reach your professional goals?

The skills I learned within this two years that helped prepare me for my professional goals were based in CAD. Being able to draw using computer aided drafting utilizing different programs was challenging, but essential. The classes I took taught me how to use Catia 3D Experience, SolidWorks, and AutoCAD.

Describe the best experience you had at EvCC.

One of the best experiences I had at EvCC was working on a group project with two other students in an advanced 3D Experience class. Our group designed and created a pallet jack, which we were all proud of.

Who helped you succeed at EvCC? What did that person do to help you?

There were several people at Everett Community College who helped me in the two years I attended. David Primacio and Sean Auger are a couple of the instructors who taught numerous CAD classes I was in. They both taught me most of the skills I needed to work in my profession. Another person who helped me along the way was Teri Reade. She helped me put together a resume and found the job I am working at now.

Who is your employer and what is your job title? Describe the work you do in this role.

I am currently working as a drafter for Insight Engineering in Everett using AutoCAD. My job requires me to draw building footprints, water lines, curbs, sidewalks, roads and everything associated with civil engineering. I will get plans from an engineer and create the drawings from these using a computer and AutoCAD Civil 3D. My job is challenging, but I really enjoy it.

Is there anything else you’d like to add?

If I were to have any advice for a student starting in school it would be to approach the classes and studies as if it were a job.
