Student Spotlight - Sebastian Corrales

What did you study at EvCC?

Technical Design - CAD Advanced manufacturing degree at EvCC's Advanced Manufacturing Training & Education Center (AMTEC).

Why did you choose EvCC?

I chose EvCC because it was close to home and part of my community, always had an obsession over airplanes and that's why I chose to go for technical design at EvCC.

Who helped you succeed at EvCC? What did that person do to help you?

I was part of the Seattle Goodwill Youth Program, which includes a two-year commitment in service learning, civic participation, team building, college and career readiness to prepare students for both their senior year and work. After I graduated from the youth program (YAP 3) I succeeded to get into EvCC. I owe the Seattle Goodwill Youth Program a lot of skills I use to this very day to find employment and be a better person.

What advice do you have for new EvCC students?

Advice I would give to college students is to be yourself always! Listen to your gut feeling, know that nothing great should be easy, don't live your life for people you don't like, your background doesn't define who you are - you define who you are with actions, love yourselves for who you know you are, always keep learning and improving yourself.

What do you plan to do next?

I plan to work and have a side business , however keep on learning skills.

Describe the best experience you had at EvCC.

The best experience I've had was being part of First Nations club. It was the first time I was actually part of a school club and participated in events, which included drumming around the school, helping host a gathering and giving culture awareness to students.

Anything else you want to add?

As a Peruvian American, the transition from moving as a little boy and learning English and having the resources this country gave me to get where I am now as a 22 year old is a real fortune.

Best of luck for future EvCC students, tremendous thanks to all the staff!
