Student Spotlight - Stephanie Guzman

What did you study at EvCC?

I recently completed my associates degree at EvCC and will be transferring to the University of Washington.

Why did you choose EvCC?

I was a Running Start student taking classes at EvCC and I found myself really liking the campus. I chose to stay there after high school. At first I wasn’t sure what I wanted to major in, but I was able to talk to professors and advisors and learn more about myself.  I decided that I wanted a transfer degree so I could continue studying.

How did your EvCC Foundation scholarship help you?

The EvCC Foundation scholarship motivated me to keep working towards the degree I want to pursue.  I felt fortunate to meet my scholarship donor because she was a psychology major, which is something I’m interested in.  I was able to ask her a lot of questions and learn more about the major.  I felt that our conversation made my career path easier.

What do you want your scholarship donor to know?

I want to thank them and let them know that they have motivated me to keep dreaming big, and that anything is possible.

How did the TRiO program help you?

The TRiO program helped me succeed. A counselor helped me apply to the university of my dream. It was not easy because it was a long process, however I got accepted to the University of Washington!

Who helped you succeed at EvCC? What did that person do to help you?

One of the career counselors at EvCC helped me find my major. Talking to the counselor made me learn more about myself and I now know that I want to be a professor in higher education.

What advice do you have for new EvCC students?

Get involved!  Don’t be afraid to ask for help and ask questions because that alone helps one be successful. There are many opportunities for students to get free help with homework and assignments.  There are also many student events to attend.

What do you plan to do next?

I plan to transfer to the University of Washington and major in Gender, Women, and Sexuality studies.

Describe the best experience you had at EvCC.

My best experience was getting involved as a Student Ambassador. I had the opportunity to grow professionally and have fun while I worked.  As a student ambassador I helped organize student events and also had the opportunity to represent the college as an EvCC student.

Anything else you want to add?

Get involved with new things! You may find yourself liking something new!
