GED Testing

The Testing Center is serving students in accordance with current health guidelines.  The GED®  Testing Service is now offering a virtual exam, with details on their website.  We have also been approved for limited in-person testing.  You can schedule via your ged.com  account and select EvCC as your testing site. Please be aware that there is time for only one subject area per testing time.  Please contact us at testing@everettcc.edu if you need assistance or have questions.

If on campus, please rest assured that our testing rooms will be set up to uphold current recommendations for social distancing and are cleaned daily by staff. If you have any questions, please contact us at testing@everettcc.edu.

How do I schedule an appointment for a GED® test?

  • GED® testing is by appointment only. To schedule an appointment for GED® testing, first create a free account at ged.com . Once you've created an account, you can make appointments, check scores, and more.
  • Fill out all the demographic information in your profile - some of it is under "Schedule a Test" rather than "My Information." Too much missing information can block you from making appointments. If you have a problem making an appointment online, call 1-877-EXAM-GED (1-877-3926-433).
  • Appointments should be made at least 48 hours in advance.
  • Once you have made an appointment to take a test, any changes to your appointment time need to be done at least 24 hours before your test. No refunds or changes will be available after that 24-hour period.
  • On the day of your appointment, please note that GED®  instructions will ask you to arrive 30 minutes before your appointment. Students may arrive at our Testing Center before we open if scheduled for one of our first appointment slots. We will open at the posted Testing Center hours, and you will be seated promptly. If you are late for your appointment, you will not be able to test, and your money cannot be refunded. You are considered no-show 15 minutes after your appointment time.

How much does each test cost?

Each section costs $30 separately, a total of $120 for all four sections.  These fees may be subject to sales tax.

  • To pay for a test with a credit or debit card, pay online at ged.com . Prepaid cards such as those available at grocery stores and gas stations will also work.
  • Due to technical difficulties, we are not accepting Third Party Vouchers. Please refer funding sources to the GED® Marketplace to purchase a GED Single use Voucher.

What should I bring?

  • You will need to bring one form of government-issued identification (such as driver's license or passport) with you to any and all testing sessions. Your identification should include your photo, name, WA State address, date of birth, and signature.  If your ID does *not* include your WA State address, please bring additional documentation with that information, such as a bill.  Please note: Temporary IDs issued by the Washington State DMV no longer include a photo.  In order to use the paperwork they provide as your ID, it will need to be accompanied by the expired photo ID.  School ID is not acceptable.
  • If you are 16-18 years old (that is, if you have not yet reached your 19th birthday) you will need to bring a completed high school release form or notarized statement of completion of a home-schooling program to the Testing Center prior to making your first appointment. We cannot test you without this form, and you will not be able to make appointments until we have received it. You must be at least 16 to test.

What tests do I need to take?

In order to receive your GED®, you must complete and pass all four sections of the test: language arts, mathematics, science and social studies.

If I don't pass, how do I take a retest?

Retesting may be done until minimum scores are obtained. You may re-take each of the four subject tests three times in a row (once plus two re-takes).

Two discounted re-takes are provided by the GED® Testing Service at $10 each. Additional re-takes are allowed after a 60-day waiting period, and the price goes back up to $30 each.

Scores do carry over from year to year until the test battery is changed. The test battery was just changed on January 1, 2014, so it is not likely that changes will be made in the near future.

How do I get my score?

Scores for math, science, and social studies are posted to your ged.com account within 1-2 business days. Language arts will post to your ged.com account within 3-5 business days.

GED® Records and Notices

All GED records (including those of certificates obtained prior to 2014) should be requested through ged.com .  Go to the "Request Transcript" tab at the top of the website, and follow the prompts. Individual testing centers no longer have access to these records.

Watch out for scams: The GED® test is now virtual, but *only* valid through the GED Testing Service

The only valid online GED® test is offered through the GED Testing Service.  Details on the new virtual exam can be found here on the ged.com website.

There are hundreds of websites offering high school diplomas, GED® credentials, and other degrees. What they don’t tell you is the “accredited degree” they’re offering is practically worthless. These sites are looking to make a quick buck at your expense—and they’re charging anywhere from $50 to $500 to do it. Learn more about how to spot a scam and where to earn a real GED® test credential.

I'm younger than 19 years old. What should I do?

If you are 16, 17 or 18 years old, you must submit a Request for Approval to Test form OR a Notarized Statement/Letter for Home School Students to the test center:

  • If you attended high school, the "Approval to Test" form must be completed by your last Washington high school or the school district office in which you now reside. This releases you from the district to take your GED® tests. Contact your high school or school district office to request a completed form. (Schools or school districts can get forms from GED@sbctc.edu.)
  • Home schooled students need to complete and submit a notarized form called the "Notarized Statement/Letter for Home School Students."
  • Go to GED.com and set up the student’s account. Once the form is completed and your GED.com account has been set up, you can submit the appropriate form to the testing center that you plan to use or email it to GED@sbctc.edu. The age alert on the student's GED® account can then be cleared and they will be able to schedule and complete tests either at a testing center or online.

For more information, please check out SBCTC's website for GED® Testing and Transcripts.
