Preparing for the Placement Test

Placement testing tips

• Get a good night's rest.
• For placement testing, remember that it's not pass-fail, but it's important that you place into the right class. Don't panic, but do take the test seriously - you're allowed a limited number of re-takes.
• Don't rush.  Read each question carefully.  
• Be careful about changing your answers if you're not certain they're wrong.  Your first instinct is often correct!

Yes, it is a great idea to prepare for the placement test. College Board offers free Accuplacer sample questions and practice materials for students.

What's the purpose of a placement test?  How is it different from a pass-fail test, and why are my class placements more important than my scores?
