"(They) helped me get connected in school activities and meet new friends as well as with going to the student leaders conference." After earning three Early Childhood Education certificates at EvCC, Jasmine plans on transferring to Western Washington University through the University Center.

What did you study at EvCC?
I studied Elementary Education and Early Childhood Education at EvCC.

Why did you choose EvCC?
I chose EvCC because it was close to home and gave me an opportunity to further my education.

Who helped you succeed at EvCC? (faculty member, staff). What did that person do to help you?
Some of the staff members that helped me succeed at EvCC were Linda Summers, Allison Werling and Paula Krock. Linda helped me connect with TRiO, a program for first generation students that helps us navigate through the campus. Allison was my advisor from TRiO and helped me fill out FASFA paperwork, register for classes and make sure I passed my classes by offering me a tutor when I needed one. Paula helped me on my career path and made sure I was set to graduate by taking the right classes, along with earning three early childhood education certificates.

What do you plan to do next? (Job, transfer, etc.)
I plan on transferring to Western at the University Center at EvCC.

Describe the best experience you had at EvCC.
My best experience at EvCC, was walking across the stage knowing that I had completed all my courses and graduated with my associates degree and three certificates.

How did the TRiO program help you?
TRiO helped me in multiple ways! TRiO answered all my questions as a first generation student, helped me get connected in school activities and meet new friends as well with going to the student leaders conference. My advisor Allison helped me stay on top of my paperwork required for my financial aid, apply for scholarships, check my registration date and suggested great professors. TRiO also helped me with my English and math classes by providing me with a one-to-one tutor. Not only did TRiO help me achieve my goal at EvCC, but it helped me apply to transfer to Western at the University Center. I can not thank the staff enough at TRiO that helped me succeed and advocated for me each time I needed their help.
