“It was my long-time dream to get my associates degree, and now my dream has come true.”
My name is Amandeep Kaur. I am from India. I am the first from my family to go to college in the United States. I was honored to graduate and receive my associate degree in 2022 from Everett Community College. Being a blind person, I never thought it was tough for me. I wanted to send a huge thanks to the Center for Disability Services and their staff. When I was struggling with my accessible material, I always stopped by the Center for Disability Services office, and the staff was always helpful. They supported me in getting my high school diploma in 2020, and after that in getting my Human Services associate degree.
I want to share a memorable moment at Everett Community College. I took ESL (English as a second language) at Everett Community College back in 2015. I had an impressive instructor, Rose Gonzalez. I had never had a teacher like her before. That was my first class in the United States, and after that I had instructors who were always extremely helpful and nice to me. Other sources that I got help from for my studies are the Tutoring Center, BRIDGES Center, and I got big help from the TRiO program and staff. After the COVID-19 pandemic hit I started my college again. I started working with one of the TRiO staff members, Christie Santos. She helped me at academically challenging times.
I had a great experience at Everett Community College. It was my long-time dream to get my associate degree, and now my dream has come true. My next step is to transfer to Western Washington University to get my bachelor's degree.
