Academic I-BEST: 

The purpose of Academic I-BEST classes is to help students be successful and take part in an educational pathway linked to a transfer degree or a specific pathway that begins with adult basic education ABE/ELA and continues to the professional technical certificate, an associate degree and concludes with a bachelor’s degree.:

Academic I-BEST for Transfer Degree and Professional Technical Degree Students:

  • Are studying for a two-year transfer degree (see Transfer I-BEST)
  • Are preparing to study for a Professional Technical Degree (see Professional Technical I-BEST)
  • Pre-College classes (100 level English or Math or Adult Basic Education) 
  • Earn transfer degree credits in both an English "Bucket" class with writing support, AND a core distribution/elective class at the same time.

Sample of Classes being offered, options vary each quarter but may include:

  • ENG& 101 and MATH& 107
  • ENG& 101 and HIST& 148
  • ENG& 101 and GEOL 108
  • ENG& 101
  • STEM 101 and MATH/TS 86
  • MATH& 146 and TS/MATH 86 and CHEM 121

I-BEST Model:

  • Having two instructors team-teaching a class; one will deliver the content class while the other will provide support in writing, reading, and math skills
  • Students can brush up their English and math skills in pre-college level classes while studying in college-level classes toward a transfer degree or a professional degree
  • Students can enroll in these college-level classes integrated with the English and Math classes as well as Social Sciences and Natural Sciences electives.
