Artist: James Madison

Artist Statement: "I am a Native American artist from Tulalip Tribes. I received my B.A. from the University of Washington in fine arts and mainly focus on artwork of my culture. I keep our art and culture alive by adding a modern twist to my pieces."

Related Information: This self-portrait of the artist was inspired by the work of Picasso. Influenced by European art history and his Tlingit and Salish cultural heritage, Madison unites these distinct traditions by applying traditional carving methods to a contemporary aluminum sculpture.
