Guidelines and Requirements of Internships
Requirements
- Must be a licensed business with the State of Washington and local municipalities as applicable by law/ code
- Employer must have policies in place that conform to federal, state, and local EEOC non-discrimination and harassment laws
- Employer must demonstrate a safe work environment that complies with applicable OSHA/ WISHA regulations
- Employer must sign EvCC's Student / Employer Internship form
- Employer must be willing to submit to a pre-internship site visit / evaluation
Providing a good Internship experience
At Everett Community College, making community connections and partnerships is an important part of our mission - which is why we will be here to assist you from the beginning of the internship process. By following the guidelines below, you will be able to offer a student a meaningful experience as well as give back to your community, evaluate a potential employee, and gain assistance with special projects.
Guidelines
- Have a job description that includes the requirements, duties, wage and approximate schedule
- Provide your intern with an orientation as you would any new employee including safety training
- Make sure the intern has a supervisor that has patience, interpersonal skills, and a desire to be a role model for that intern
- Evaluate the intern's performance and offer guidance and support throughout the internship
- Help the intern to network with other employees
