Camila Garcia Lemos

Camila Garcia Lemos aims to use her education to help others in need. She sees herself working inside a United Nations council or as an advocate for women's and children's rights in the future. As an international student she jumped right into EvCC's campus life by working as a student ambassador and office assistance on campus. She received the Cecil and Patricia Clarke Memorial Scholarship for the 2022-2023 school year. She says her scholarship gave her the strength to continue with her studies.

Why did you choose EvCC?

As an international student, one of my top priorities was choosing a college where I would feel welcomed, and EvCC was the perfect fit. Plus, finding scholarship opportunities like EvCC Foundation was a huge game changer for me.

What are your education and career plans?

My plans include finishing my DTA on global studies, applying for my Optional Practical Training program, and then transferring to finish my international relations major.

What degree are you working toward?

Global studies.

What interested you about that program?

What apassionates me the most about my program is being able to support those in need around the world.

Who has helped you succeed at EvCC? What did that person do to help you?

Three amazing people have marked my trajectory on EvCC: Vikki King, Ali Soltanshahi, and Kaleb Ode. With their support I was able to develop not only work related skills, but I also grew as a person. With their lessons and kindness I learned the difference that a great supervisor makes in the workplace.

Describe the best experience you've had at EvCC so far.

Until this day, the best experience I've had at EvCC was leading the Welcome Days for International Students. Working side by side with my coworkers were were able to lead an event prepared to welcome international students. It was amazing to see those new faces learning about their now home: Everett Community College.

How did your EvCC Foundation scholarship help you?

Wow. It is hard for me to put into words how grateful I am to EvCC Foundation for their scholarship, my family and I were thrilled when I received the confirmation letter. It supported me on enrolling in my classes, and gave me the strength to continue with my studies.

What advice do you have for new students?

Follow your dreams. No matter how far you are from the place you want to be, with patience, and hard work, we will all get where we want to be! Also, never forget to be grateful, and to enjoy the journey until your dreamed destiny.

Is there anything else you'd like to add?

Thank you again, EvCC Foundation, for the opportunity to pursue my dreams.
