Distinguished Alumni - 2019
Everett Community College has selected nonprofit leader Julieta Altamirano-Crosby and Washington state Senator Steve Hobbs as the college’s 2019 Distinguished Alumni.
The two were honored at a reception on campus June 21.
Julieta Altamirano-Crosby
Julieta Altamirano-Crosby attended Everett Community College in order to learn the English language. After leaving EvCC, Julieta worked as a social and medical interpreter for school districts and hospitals, and was the Director of Latino Enrollment of the 74 Catholic Schools of the Archdiocese of Seattle. She holds a Ph.D. in Social Communication and has recently graduated with her second Master’s of Education in Educational Leadership. She is the co-founder and president of WAGRO, a non-profit organization working to break down barriers to education for Latinos.
Steve Hobbs
Steve Hobbs is a Washington state senator from Lake Stevens. He earned his associate degree from Everett Community College before transferring to the University of Washington where he obtained his bachelor’s degree in 1994. In 2011, he received his master’s degree from the UW Evans School.
Hobbs is a member of the Washington Army National Guard and proudly served in Kosovo and Iraq. His legislative focus areas include transportation, education, and advocacy for service members and their families. He meets frequently with Everett Community College students and staff, and is actively involved in moving legislation forward that benefits the community and technical college system.
Hobbs and his wife Pam are raising three boys: Gavin, Truman, and Winston. Truman and Winston are in public school, while Gavin, an EvCC student, recently enlisted in the Washington National Guard.
