EvCC’s Katherine Schiffner named Communicator of the Year

Katherine SchiffnerEVERETT, Wash. – Katherine Schiffner, Everett Community College’s Director of Public Relations, has been named the National Council for Marketing and Public Relations Communicator of the Year for District 7.

The district includes community and technical college’s in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Alaska and western Canada. Schiffner, of Shoreline, has worked for EvCC for 15 years.

“Katherine believes in the power of education and works tirelessly to communicate its value,” according to the award nomination. “During the COVID-19 pandemic, Katherine’s uncommon level of excellence and leadership has caused her to rise to the forefront.”

The award was presented at an NCMPR virtual ceremony on Oct. 28. She is one of seven finalists for the national Communicator of the Year award, which will be presented in March 2021. 

EvCC’s Marketing and Communications team also earned five NCMPR medallion awards for their work: gold for digital advertising, silver for social media, crisis communication and annual report and bronze for radio advertising. 

The team includes Marketing Specialist Jenny Marin, Digital Marketing Specialist Derek Walker, CRM Communications Specialist Lori Greenwood and Senior Graphic Designer Kari Hiser. Former EvCC Bilingual Digital Marketing Specialist Dora Garay was also part of creating the work that was honored.

EvCC’s Marketing and Communications team is responsible for public relations, marketing, advertising, social media, graphic design, emergency communication, promotional photos and videos and the college’s customer relationship management and text messaging systems.
