EVERETT, Wash. – Everett Community College has joined the American Association for Women in Community Colleges, becoming the first Washington state chapter of the national organization.
Founded in 1973, AAWCC is committed to ensuring equitable treatment and success of women in community colleges through education, service and leadership development.
“AAWCC is an incredible organization that provides resources and tools for all women at our nation’s community colleges. I am proud to have Washington’s first chapter on our campus,” EvCC President Daria J. Willis said.
Willis is the keynote speaker for the AAWCC’s annual awards breakfast at the organization’s national convention March 29 in Maryland. She received an AAWCC “40 Under 40” award in 2018.
All current EvCC part-time and full-time employees may join the college’s AAWCC chapter. A reception for employees interested in joining is being planned for April.
“EvCC’s AAWCC chapter is part of the college’s commitment to equity. It provides women employees on campus a safe space to share their stories and experiences, mentor and provide support for one another, as well as learn about resources and opportunities to achieve their personal and professional career goals,” said Ciera Graham, AAWCC chapter president.
EvCC chapter officers and founding members are: Ciera Graham, president; Chayuda Overby, vice president; Saada Hilts, secretary; and Shelby Burke, treasurer.
