EVERETT, Wash. – Everett Community College’s Veterans’ Resource Center has new carpet, thanks to a donation from Rubenstein’s.

The Seattle-based commercial flooring company donated more than $4,000 worth of carpet and labor, replacing worn, stained carpet that was more than two decades old.

“Having the Veterans’ Resource Center to go to and community support from companies like Rubenstein’s really does motivate you to get your degree,” said U.S. Marine Corps veteran Robert Bried, who is earning his degree at EvCC while working full time. “The donation is a way of contributing to the success of veterans.”

The Veterans’ Resource Center is located in Baker Hall, rooms 203 and 204. The center serves more than 500 military veterans and active duty military personnel every quarter. In addition to providing academic support, the center also has a Veterans Lounge with a study area and computers.

“We are truly grateful for a company like Rubenstein’s, which has greatly improved our Veterans’ Resource Center to better serve the men and women that placed their lives in harm’s way for this great country,” said Veterans’ Resource Center Program Manager Arlene Cahoon.

Rubenstein’s installed the new carpet in March.

State funding for projects like this is limited, so private donations make it possible for the college to upgrade some of its older facilities, said John Olson, executive director of the EvCC Foundation.

“It’s an honor for us to be able to help veterans,” Rubenstein’s senior project manager Jesse Deason said, noting that his father spent his career in the U.S. Air Force.

In September 2014, EvCC was named a “Military Friendly School” for the fifth year in a row, ranking it among the top 15 percent of colleges, universities and trade schools serving active duty military personal, veterans and military families.
