EvCC Update: Feb. 23, 2023 Lockdown Lifted
Today at 1:43 p.m. Everett Community College and WSU-Everett went into lockdown for about five minutes due to police activity in the area near Hawthorne Elementary School, which is near the east side of campus.
The Everett Police Department was responding to a situation across the street from the elementary school and requested the school go into a lockdown out of an abundance of caution. When Hawthorne or Whittier elementary schools lockdown, EvCC, and WSU-Everett do as well.
Everett police cleared the school and EvCC to end the lockdown shortly afterward. Once we were sure the potential threat was resolved and everyone was safe, we resumed normal operations. At no time were any of our students or staff in harm’s way.
We are aware that the audio messages on campus phones and loudspeakers did not deploy and are working with IT to troubleshoot the potential cause of the problem. This is a high priority for us to get fixed, and we will continue to work on it.
