Two people wearing safety goggles look surprised and excited while yellow foam sprays out of a test tube into the air. The setting is a science lab.

Everett Community College student Kaytlyn Engle and chemistry lab technician Pete Kasselman perform an elephant toothpaste experiment in a science lab in March 2024. The chemical reaction forms a foam that often looks like toothpaste squeezing out of a giant tube.

EVERETT, Wash. – Watch a chemical reaction known as elephant toothpaste, examine real fossils, and see a steel drum implosion at a student exhibition June 4 at Everett Community College.

The science and engineering demonstrations are part of the annual STEM and Health Professions Student Exhibition, a family-friendly event that includes free food and hands-on activities. The event is open to the public.

Students will do free demonstrations from noon to 2:30 p.m. outside EvCC’s Gray Wolf Hall and Henry M. Jackson Conference Center. Play with Oobleck, build a water bottle rocket, and create indigo tie dye.

EvCC science, engineering, math, technology (STEM) and healthcare students will present their research projects from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at Jackson Center during an interactive poster session. Students, faculty, staff and visitors can vote for their favorite student project. The top projects will receive prizes.

The exhibition is sponsored by the EvCC Foundation, Guided Pathways and STEM & Health Professions Division.
