Trojan Talk Highlights: January 2024

Date: Jan. 23, 2024

Last Friday, the Everett Community College executive leadership team members shared updates from their areas at Trojan Talk, a bimonthly update for EvCC faculty and staff. More than 140 faculty and staff participated in person or online. Here are some of the highlights:

Student Services

  • Participation in student government, clubs and activities has increased since last year. Check out EverettCC.edu/LIFE to learn how students can get involved.
  • The EvCC Food Pantry served students, faculty and staff at more than 500 visits during Fall quarter. This is a free service for anyone in our community experiencing food insecurity. Visit EverettCC.edu/FoodPantry for details or to make a donation.
  • Class of 2024, get ready to celebrate! Visit EverettCC.edu/Graduation to apply for graduation and RSVP for the June 9 Commencement ceremony.

Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

  • Volunteers and panelists are needed for the Students of Color Career Conference, which will welcome 2,000 middle and high school students to EvCC on March 21. To sign up, visit EverettCC.edu/SOCCC.

EvCC Foundation

Instruction

  • EvCC is embarking on year seven of the seven-year accreditation process. According to Vice President of Instruction Dr. Leaker, accreditation is like the Super Bowl for higher education; it’s that big of a deal. The college is accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities.

Campus Operations

  • This year, EvCC will select a contractor and architect for the Baker Hall replacement project and involve stakeholders in design and planning. Construction is estimated to start in early 2026 on a classroom and theater building near Cascade Learning Resource Center.

Technology Services

  • Starting Jan. 25, EvCC is adding extra security to all student ctcLink accounts.

Budget

  • The 2023-24 operating budget is on track for revenue and expenses, and the Budget Office has been providing monthly updates to the Board of Trustees. Development of the 2024-25 budget is underway.

Human Resources

  • College leadership continues to work on putting the right people in the right roles with appropriate oversight. Recently EvCC has reorganized the EvCC Foundation, Corporate and Continuing Education Center, Student Services and Marketing and Communications to better support employees and students, and to promote collaboration and community relations.
