EVERETT, Wash. – Delta Air Lines will work with Everett Community College’s aviation maintenance technology program to help meet the industry demand for aircraft maintenance technicians.
EvCC was one of 38 schools nationwide selected for the Delta aviation maintenance technician training partnership after an evaluation of the program’s curriculum.
“To be partnered with a commercial airlines as part of their workforce pipeline demonstrates not only our capabilities as a program, but our willingness to respond to their training needs,” said EvCC Associate Dean of Aviation Rob Prosch. “The partnership will open many doors to good-paying jobs for our students.”
Aviation maintenance technicians, also known as aircraft mechanics, are responsible for keeping aircraft in peak condition.
“Over the next several years, the aircraft maintenance technician position will be in high demand in the airline industry,” according to Joe McDermott, managing director of Delta’s Cabin Maintenance, Training, Safety & Support Services.
The demand is primarily due to retirement of current technicians and growth in the global airline industry.
Aircraft mechanics and service technicians earn $26 to 30 per hour, according to U.S. carriers.
EvCC’s eight-quarter aviation maintenance technician program includes 2,040 hours of instruction in more than 45 subject areas, with work being done on a variety of fixed-wing aircraft and helicopters. In addition to earning a certificate or degree, most graduates complete Federal Aviation Administration exams to earn an aviation maintenance certificate with Airframe and Powerplant ratings.
EvCC’s aviation maintenance technology program has been operating on Paine Field for 49 years and is a FAA Part 147 school.
