EVERETT, Wash. – Western Washington University students in Everett can now live on campus.

WWU students can move into Everett Community College’s two residence halls under an agreement signed this week by both schools.

About 200 students per year are enrolled in WWU bachelor’s and master’s degree programs offered through the University Center on EvCC’s Everett campus.

“In 1986, Western brought programs to Everett for students in Snohomish and Island counties who wanted to continue their education. We now have 12 bachelor’s and master’s degree options. Giving our students an option for housing is the logical next step,” said Lois Longwood, WWU Director of Degree and Professional Programs for Extended Education.

Most students who transfer to one of Western’s programs start their education at EvCC, Longwood explained, so it’s helpful for students to have the option to continue living in campus housing.

EvCC’s first residence hall, the 120-room Mountain View Hall, opened in September 2016. The college’s next student housing building, the 132-bed Cedar Hall, will open in September 2017.

Applications for the buildings are accepted year-round, with room assignments for fall quarter starting July 15. For more information and to apply, visit EverettCC.edu/Housing.

All residents must be enrolled at EvCC or Western to be eligible for housing. No non-students, including children, can live in the residence halls.

Rent includes furnished rooms, utilities, free wifi, 24-hour support from live-in staff, secured access and activities for residents. Students can choose a single room with a private bathroom in Mountain View or four-bedroom, three-bedroom or studio apartments in Cedar Hall.

“Students enjoy living in housing because of the convenience it affords them to have immediate access to their classes and campus resources, along with the opportunity to feel connected to the college community,” said EvCC Student Housing Director Lea Wasson.

EvCC is talking with other University Center partners, including Washington State University, about housing options for their students.
