EVERETT, Wash. – The Everett Community College Foundation awarded a record 248 student scholarships in 2018 so far, with an additional 36 to come.

The Foundation will award almost $400,000 in scholarships this year, including 17 new scholarships from donors and grants. The funds helped 233 students, who received an average of $1,500 in scholarship funds to pay for their EvCC education.

As the college has grown, the number of students seeking help to pay for their education has increased. The Foundation is working to meet the demand, said John Olson, executive director of the EvCC Foundation.

“The Foundation board members and staff have worked hard to increase the number of students receiving awards,” Olson said. “Donors recognize the solid investment in student success, and we’re confident that the recipients will work hard in return.”

The EvCC Foundation provided 151 scholarships and other support to students in 2016-17 but had to turn away more than 300 other students who applied for scholarships. For students who do receive scholarships, the funds cover about 20 percent of the cost of their education.
