Program Map for Advanced Manufacturing Technology Mechatronics ATA
Robotics and automation are the future of manufacturing. This state-of-the-art training integrates skills in electrical mechanics, computerized components, and industrial manufacturing and assembly to prepare you for an in-demand job as an electro-mechanical technician working in robotics operations, testing, and equipment maintenance.
The foundational skill set for these integrated systems are interrelated in a variety of industries – aerospace, automotive, farming, mining, pharmaceuticals, power and energy, and food processing. The certificate program focuses on skills used in plant assembly sites, warehouse, and service operations which utilize complex mechatronics systems.

Prepare for college-level math
If your math placement is below MATH 76, you’ll need to take the following sequence of courses, starting from the level you placed into:
- TS 60 → TS 70
Prepare for college-level English
If your English placement is below ENGL 98, you’ll need to take ENGL/TS/AEP 97
Note: English language learners may need additional courses before ENGL/TS 97 depending on their placement.
Choose one of the following options to complete part of the Related Instruction requirement:
- Take ENG T 101 - Introduction to Graphics and Measurement
- Take TS/MATH 76 - Mathematical Literacy → TS/MATH 86 - Essentials of Intermediate Algebra
Note: ENG T 101 or eligibility for MATH 086 is a prerequisite for the Mechatronics Technical Core classes.
Choose one of the following options to complete part of the Related Instruction Requirement:
- Take TS/ENGL 98 - Introduction to College Writing
- Take ENGL& 101/101D - English Composition I

- MFG T 117 - Blueprint Reading and Schematics
Before registering each quarter, check your Degree Planner to see what classes you should take to stay on track. See your faculty program advisor with any questions you have.
Recommended Actions
- Looking for more support by phone, tablet, or computer? Visit the Online Student Support and Resources page.
- Do you qualify for Financial Aid? Fill out a FAFSA or WASFA and visit the Financial Aid Office to begin talking about how to pay for college.
- Visit the Tutoring Center, Writing Center, and the Library.
- Consider registering for a study skills class offered by DEVED department.
- Get involved with Student LIFE and join a campus club, such as the AMTEC Organization & American Welding Society. The AMTEC Organization has 5 entities: Welding, Composites, Engineering Tech, Machining and Mechatronics.
- See if you qualify for TRiO and/or MESA.
Complete college-level courses. Focus on completing courses that are in Common Technical Requirements in all of Advanced Manufacturing Technology ATA Pathways, so that if you change to another Manufacturing ATA pathway most of the credits you’ve earned already will apply to your new goal.
Complete additional courses that satisfy the Common Technical Requirements:
- MFG T 101 - Introduction to Machining or MFG T 113 - CNC Cutting Solutions
- MECH 118 - Predictive Maintenance and Operations Efficiency
Complete remaining Related Instruction courses. BUS 110D - Business Communications is recommended. Other Related Instruction courses you may take instead are:
- BUS 165 - Service Essentials for Business
- CMST& 210 - Interpersonal Communication
- CMST& 230 - Small Group Communication.

Check back in with your faculty program advisor to discuss if this is the right program for you and update your plan of study as needed.
- If you haven't already, join a club that aligns with your interest, such as such as the AMTEC Organization & American Welding Society. The AMTEC Organization has 5 entities: Welding, Composites, Engineering Tech, Machining, and Mechatronics.
Complete specific degree requirements and earn your Mechatronics System Certificate Certificate. If you change to another program in this phase, some credits earned may not apply to your new program.
Complete the Technical Core courses:
- MECH 120 - Electrical Components
- MECH 121 - Mechanical Components and Electrical Drives
- MECH 122 - Electro-Pneumatic and Hydraulic Control Circuits
- MECH 123 - Digital Fundamentals and Programmable Logic Controllers
- MECH 124 - Controls and Instrumentation
