Leader Spotlight - Ed Alexander

Name: Ed Alexander
Title: Executive Director of Technology Services

What do you do at EvCC?

As Executive Director of Technology Services, I manage the technical team that creates and supports a vast majority of the technology experience at EvCC. This includes student and staff hardware and software products, the wired and wireless computer network, the campus server infrastructure, our web presence and integrated applications, and the tech support structure that assists and trains the campus community.

What is your favorite part of the job?

Besides a few years working in the private sector, I have spent much of my adult life in college, both as a student and a staff member. I stay in higher education because I love that my job and daily work is tied to the growth and betterment of others. Knowing that EvCC’s technology platforms assist a diverse community of students to achieve that new degree, certification, or transfer gets me into the office each day. Beyond even that, the idea that my college work may transform not only one individual, but whole families, gives my career a sense of purpose.

What is the most exciting or inspiring thing you're working on right now?

As part of implementing EvCC’s Strategic Plan, the Technology Services department has been working on finding new or additional support pathways to connect with students that also targets the needs or experience of historically underserved populations. My team has been researching and talking to campus groups to better understand what platforms or strategies we can use. This work has created an exciting list of ideas for us to work with. From now until the end of May, we are piloting items that could possibly break down traditional barriers like language, access to high-end technology, office hour restrictions, and confusion with our campus accounts and access. The hope is that these new pathways would give students easier access to our technology resources and that they feel better equipped for college life.

What's the best-kept secret about Everett?

As part of the EvCC and north Everett community for almost 24 years, I’ve been very excited at the revitalization of both the downtown area and the waterfront. I love discovering the local coffee shops, restaurants, and businesses that have been established and are thriving. I encourage people to explore this area’s offerings!
