Starfish for Faculty and Staff

Our Student Success Technology

Welcome to Starfish and Degree Planner, Everett Community College's student success technology designed to help students, faculty, and staff work together to reach student goals. Our Core Features are designed to help current students reach out to the college and help us reach out to them. Degree Planner allows students and staff to explore and build academic plans for straight-forward completion of any certificate or degree we offer. As students and advisors work together, plans can be reviewed, revised, and approved.

The Starfish team is working diligently to make this the best resource we can. The team will gladly explore using Starfish to create or expand workflow efficiencies with any staff or faculty. Please reach out to us to engage in this process.

Things We Can do in Starfish

Core Features:

  • Access to students (and their access to Starfish) is based on application, enrollment, and registration status.
    • Full access and interaction is available for current or former students who have been actively enrolled in classes in the past 4 years, and for students who have not yet registered within one year of applying and receiving their student ID.
    • You have access to future (prospective) students who do not yet have a student ID with limited features available to both you and the student..
  • Connect with students who are:
    • Advisees.
    • Currently in your active classes.
    • Formerly connected by courses or other relationships.
    • Members of support groups or organizations.
  • Search easily for students using the nimble search functionality.
    • You can use full or partial names, student IDs, even email addresses.,
  • Make appointments with students and take corresponding notes and/or SpeedNotes.
    • Notes are the secret to making it so a student only needs to tell their story only once.
    • Access to notes and other features are determined by connection with a student.
    • Appointments and notes are the only features available for prospective students.
  • View student attributes (relevant data points) and filter students by attributes like starting quarter, first generation status, etc.
  • Send out individual or mass communications
  • Filter your students by specific organizations and cohorts, including the 4DX cohorts.
  • See who your students have met with previously and notes from other student support staff.
  • Refer students to their Pathways coaches for pathways-specific support.
  • Use Kudos, To-Do items and flags for keeping track of your students achievements, goals and struggles.
    • These can be customized and tailored to your needs, reach out to the Starfish team to explore those options

Degree Planner:

  • Students have the ability to explore and create plans on their own based on interests.
  • Advisors and other support network members can help with this process.
  • Advisors can approve plans (or return them for additional work).
  • Using the Add Filters feature, degree plans become a valuable filtering or sorting tool based on plans or no plans, plan approval, and progression toward plans.
