Winners of the 2024 Russell and Marjorie Day Scholarship!

Every year, EvCC Foundation and the Art Department are proud to offer a scholarship for Arts, Graphic/Web Dsign, & Photography students who are completing an AFA or ATA degree here at EvCC.  Named for Russell and Marjorie Day who were integral to establishing the Art Department, our hope is that this scholarship will help knock down barriers so students can pursue their dreams in the arts.

We're pleased to announce this years recipients: Keiden Carlos, Meghan Barlow, Braydin Rose, Kyla Capp, & John Blair!

Image of student artwork- bright anime inspired figures cross a road in a homage to the Beetles Abbey Road album cover. Text overlaid reads "Keiden Carlos Visually, my work takes inspiration from the Japanese post-modern art movement “Superflat” and from media such as graphic novels and internet culture. I enjoy using visual metaphors like space and sea, comparing its quiet and emptiness to the states of sleep and death. I also use motifs across my work like stars to represent my wishes and hopes for the future."

Image of persons face in pink and blue tones, slightly blurry with text that reads "Braydin Rose Within Everett Community’s photography program, I have been encouraged and challenged to think outside the box. As a photographer, I am deeply fascinated by the infinite possibilities found in the human figure, color, and the manipulation of materials and mediums. My work serves as an experimental exploration of these elements, where each composition becomes a work of innovative expression."

Image of a young person viewed through a rain speckled car window with the texts "Kyla Capp Playing around with looks, lights, poses, moods, and colors is a way for me to bring my vision to life. Pre-visualization is a big part of my process. I often have a specific picture in my mind, but I leave room for experimentation during the photo-making process. When creating a setup or looking for a location, my number one priority is light. I’ve always loved to create my own little worlds with dress-up, kitsch, pastel colors, and fantasy."

Black and white image of a persons face in shadow with the text "John Blair I decided to "take the jump" and go to college as I knew quite a bit about photography but was missing so much knowledge that I knew I wouldn't get from YouTube videos. I knew from college courses and learning from long-time professionals that I could make photography a full-time job instead of a gig here and there. I didn't account for falling in love with the art side of photography, possibly more than the technical side."
