Your Responsibilities

  1. Request accommodations each quarter in AccessPortal.
  2. Communicate with your instructors about your accommodations and complete any additional accommodation steps for that class.
  3. Let the CDS Office know if any of your accommodations are not in place so we can make sure that you’re being supported.

Requesting Accommodations

You must request your accommodations before the start of each quarter on AccessPortal. To avoid a delay in getting your accommodations in place, please request accommodations before the “Request for Accommodations Services” due date, listed on the CDS Calendar.

About a week before classes start, your instructor will be emailed your accommodations through the online faculty notification letter. Your
student email will also receive a copy of your sent letters.

Learn more at Requesting Your Accommodations!

Communicate with your Instructor

After your letters have been sent out, you need to follow up with your instructors.  This should be done either through email, Canvas mail, or during your instructor’s office hours, to ensure confidentiality.

If you’re not sure how to talk to your instructor, you can read our Guide to Communicating with Your Instructors.

After you meet with your instructors, be sure you’ve completed the additional steps to get your accommodations.

Contacting the CDS Office with Issues

Let the CDS Office know if any of your accommodations are not in place so we can make sure that you’re being supported. It's much easier to adjust or fix issues with accommodations early on and can be problematic if issues are coming up throughout the quarter and don't get addressed quickly.

You can also review our Conflict Mediation and Grievance Resolution Procedure information.

CDS Student Handbook

During your intake appointment, you may have received a packet of information containing information that is relevant to you and your accommodations.  If you would like to review a digital copy of this document, you can download it here.
