Your Accommodations

During your initial meeting with the CDS office (your Intake Appointment), you discussed which accommodations you are eligible for based on your academic barriers due to a disability. A qualified CDS staff member made the legal decision to include any reasonable accommodations to support you while you are attending Everett Community College.

The accommodations you are eligible for can be viewed anytime in AccessPortal after your Intake Appointment.  You do not have to use all the accommodations that you are eligible for but you must request the accommodations you would like to use before each quarter.

You must request your accommodations on the Student AccessPortal every quarter, and for each course. If this is a barrier for you, please discuss with the CDS office to make other arrangements for accommodation requests.

Request for service due dates are on the CDS Calendar. Please remember that requests that are received after the due date may experience a delay in the processing and administering of your services and accommodations.

If you change your classes after the time you submit your request, please submit your change in AccessPortal or notify the CDS Office.

Steps for Using Accommodations

After your intake appointment and you have been found eligible for accommodations, you need to request accommodations every quarter. Checkout our Steps for Using Accommodations Checklist for a timeline view of accommodation requests.

When should I submit my request?

Request for service due dates are on the CDS Calendar and in the left side-bar of your AccessPortal dashboard. Please remember that requests that are received after the due date may experience a delay in the processing and administering of your services and accommodations.

It is also important to remember that accommodation requests are not retroactive. For example, if you forget to request accommodations until after a test, you will not be able to go back and retake that test.

If you change your classes after the time you submit your request, please submit your change in AccessPortal or notify the CDS Office.

Faculty Notification Letters will be emailed to your instructor about one week before the first day of classes.  Your student email will receive a copy as well.

How Do I Submit My Request?

You will need to log into the Student AccessPortal to request your accommodations for the next quarter once you have registered. You will need to request accommodation services after you register for classes each quarter (give it a day or two after you register for the class registration system to show up in AccessPortal).

We have a short video showing you how to request your accommodations online!

Please check out Logging into AccessPortal if you’re having any trouble with your login!

What Accommodations Should I Request?

You should request all accommodations that you think you may need. It is easier to remove accommodations than add them later. Remember, you can only receive accommodations after you request them!

Following Up With Your Instructor

After your letters have been sent out, you need to follow up with your instructors.  This should be done either through email, Canvas mail, or during your instructor’s office hours, to ensure confidentiality.

If you’re not sure how to talk to your instructor, you can read our Guide to Communicating with Your Instructors.

Additional Accommodation Steps

Some accommodations have additional steps that you will need to take.  After you have connected with your instructor and determined how accommodations are going to be implemented, you will be able to complete additional steps.

Changing Classes

If your classes change after you submit your request, please submit your change in AccessPortal by clicking “Modify” or notify the CDS Office.

If your classes are changed by Enrollment Services, we may manually change your accommodation requests and you will receive an email in your student email about these changes.  Contact us if you are unsure about any notifications you receive.
