Voices of EvCC - Maurice Edlund

Maurice Edlund, 85, of Stanwood, was the captain of Everett Junior College's 1947 football team, which completed its season unbeaten and untied in 10 straight games.

By virtue of their unbeaten status the EJC team was awarded the Washington State junior college football championship. They were also invited to the first ever Evergreen Bowl game (the first game in Everett Memorial Stadium) and were the only undefeated junior college team on the Pacific coast.

Maurice Edlund was one of many World War II veterans on the team, part of the wave of veterans attending college on the GI Bill after serving in the military.

Edlund served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1942 to 1945. During a tour of duty in the Pacific, he was injured in a mortar blast that lodged a piece of shrapnel in his skull. After recovering, he returned to the battlefield. When he came home, he decided to attend Everett Junior College.
