Voices of EvCC - Laura Hedges

Laura Hedges Laura Hedges retired in May 2010 after serving students for the past 31 years. Laura started working at EvCC in 1979 as a part-time receptionist in the Women's Center. She was hired as a Program Assistant in the Women's Center in 1982 and worked in various roles in the Women's Center and the Diversity & Equity Center before becoming the college’s Gender Equity Specialist and Women's Services Manager.

Laura counts as her major accomplishments touching the lives of thousands of nontraditional women students and lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender students. 

She has served students through the Links & Alliances LGBTQA Youth Conference, Pink Prom for LGBTQA (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, questioning and allied) youth, Safe Zone Program, EMPOWR (Empowerment Means Political Organization for Women's Rights), SPLICE (Single Parents Low Income for College Education) and Triangle Alliance student clubs.
