Voices of EvCC - Joan Tucker

Joan TuckerJoan Tucker came to Everett Community College in 1982 as a counselor.  She then became the director of the Women’s Center and eventually the director of the Equity Institute.  Joan left EvCC in 1994 to work as the director of the Northwest Center for Equity and Diversity at Edmonds Community College and is now retired.

During her tenure at Everett, Joan pushed for greater recognition for the needs of women, people of color, gays and lesbians, and people with disability. She also led statewide and national trainings on race issues, building community and confronting racism in a positive way.

Joan was interviewed by Paul Marshall, the coordinator of the Teaching and Learning Cooperative at Everett Community College. They discussed the climate at Everett during the early 1980s in terms of diversity issues.
