Upward Bound Math and Science (UBMS)
Program Goal
The primary goal of the TRiO Upward Bound Math and Science program (UBMS) is to prepare high school students for postsecondary education programs that lead to careers in the fields of math and science. The objectives of the program are academic improvement on standardized tests, project retention, postsecondary enrollment and postsecondary persistence.
The UBMS program will serve 60 high school students, at no cost, at the target school Marysville Pilchuck High School. Two-thirds of the students served will be from low-income and first generation college families and the remaining one-third of students will be either from low-income or first generation college families. Students will have an identified need for services and an interest and capacity to pursue a career in math, science, or engineering. Students will be chosen from rising 8th graders, to allow students to receive the maximum level of services available through the UBMS program. However, students can also be chosen from other grade levels as the space in the program and needs and interests of the student are determined.
