Supplemental Instruction

Supplemental Instruction is an internationally acclaimed program and has been offered at EvCC for several years in our Fast Track and Majors’ biology sequence.  In this program an SI leader is assigned to a class.  The leader attends all classes, completes all homework, and conducts three one-hour study sessions per week.  The SI leader assists students in content understanding using a variety of strategies.  The leader helps to explain instructor expectations and models appropriate student behavior leading to success in that class.  The SI leader works closely with the teaching faculty member to ensure continuity.

The SI leaders are well trained prior to entering the classroom. There is continual mentoring and evaluation built into the program to ensure quality.  The leaders benefit from the training and interactions with director and faculty.  This program not only develops good math students but it develops good educators.
