Basic Food and Employment Training (BFET)

The Basic Food Employment & Training (BFET) program is a partnership between Everett Community College and the Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS) which offers education and work training opportunities to students receiving federal basic food assistance (SNAP) through DSHS.

Eligibility

  • Must be receiving federal Basic Food Benefits (SNAP) through the Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS).
    • If you would like to see if you qualify for basic food or other benefits through DSHS, please go to Washington Connection  or visit your local DSHS Community Services Office. To locate a DSHS office, please go to www.dshs.wa.gov  or email Kelsey Lindstrom, our Student Campus and Community Resource Manager, and she can help walk you through the steps.
  • If you are receiving Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) from DSHS you do not qualify for the BFET program, please contact our WorkFirst program here at EvCC.
  • Students do not have to be a parent to participate in BFET.

Requirements

  • Receive federal Basic Food Benefits (SNAP) from DSHS.
  • Be enrolled in an approved BFET program of study. BFET can support most certificates and Associate degrees (including AAS, AAS-T, and transfer degrees with an career pathway) offered at EvCC. BFET also supports ELA/ESL, GED, High School 21+, High School Completion, U3, and Running Start. List of approved programs
  • BFET is a job training program, because of this you must have the ability to work (this does not mean that the BFET program will require you to work while you are enrolled in classes).
  • Submit monthly progress reports to our BFET team.

What We Offer

On a funds available basis, the BFET program at EvCC, can provide the following:

Tuition and fees, books, and some emergency support services for students ineligible for federal financial aid or whose financial aid is pending. It is mandatory that students apply for FAFSA/WASFA to be eligible for BFET. (Exceptions: Students pursuing ESL/ELA, GED/HSE, HS+ do not need to complete their FAFSA/WASFA to be considered for BFET.)

Childcare referrals to Working Connections Childcare (WCCC). (Please click here for additional childcare instructions.)

Students also receive additional resume and job search assistance while completing their program.

Priority Deadlines

Priority deadlines are the recommended dates to apply for the BFET program here at EvCC if you are seeking funding. We still encourage you to apply - you will receive notification as to funding status via email.
