High School Dual Credit Programs

Everett Community College has a lot of options for earning high school credit and college credit at the same time. We call those dual credit programs because you're getting credit for both.

Dual Credit Programs 

Running Start

High school juniors and seniors can take any college-level class at EvCC tuition-free. Credits earned through Running Start may be used to meet both high school and college requirements.

  • Eligible Students: 11th-12th grade
  • Location: EvCC's main campus in Everett and online
  • Cost: 1-15 credits tuition-free for college-level courses; student pays for textbooks, fees, and transportation
  • Courses: Academic transfer and professional/technical courses
  • Schedule: Fall, Winter, and Spring quarters (10 weeks)
  • Placement: Math and English placement, but does not need to be college-level placement
  • Application Process: Submit the Running Start online application with the required documentation

College in the High School

Earn college credit and high school credit at the same time for approved advanced high school classes. Up to 60 percent tuition reduction and fee waiver available for low-income students.

  • Eligible Students: 9th-12th grade
  • Location: Your high school
  • Cost: $220 per 5 credit class (Fee waivers may be available.)
  • Courses: Academic transfer courses
  • Schedule: High school semester or academic year
  • Placement: Must meet class prerequisites. Verification performed by high school. 
  • Application Process: Submit the EvCC online application following the program's application guidelines

Ocean Research College Academy (ORCA)

ORCA is a full-time Running Start option for high school juniors and seniors. It’s the only program in the country where high school students conduct college-level original oceanography research - and get to use a research boat. Students can earn up to two years of tuition-free college credit while completing high school.

  • Eligible Students: Running Start students
  • Location: ORCA at the Port of Everett
  • Cost: 15 credits tuition-free for college-level courses; student pays for textbooks, fees, and transportation
  • Courses: Academic transfer courses
  • Schedule: Fall, Winter, and Spring quarters (10 weeks)
  • Placement: English and math placement (does not need to be college-level placement) and a potential face-to-face meeting
  • Application Process: Submit the Running Start and ORCA online applications by May 1. The ORCA program accepts students once per year for Fall quarter admissions.

Career and Technical Education (CTE) Dual Credit

Earn high school and college credit at the same time in select high school vocational/technical classes at a reduced cost. Available at most local high schools and the Sno-Isle Skills Center. You must earn a C or better to get college credit.

  • Eligible Students: 9th-12th grade
  • Location: Your high school or Sno-Isle Tech Skills Center
  • Cost: Annual $50 administrative nonrefundable fee
  • Courses: Career and technical courses
  • Schedule: High school semester or academic year
  • Placement: Not applicable 
  • Application Process: Submit the EvCC online application following the program's application guidelines

Underage Admissions and SummerSmart

Middle and high school students can earn college credit year-round at EvCC through a special underage admissions process for students not yet eligible for Running Start. The SummerSmart program allows students younger than 17 to take college courses during the Summer quarter. 

  • Eligible Students: Middle and high school students
  • Location: EvCC's main campus in Everett and online
  • Cost: Full tuition, fees, textbooks, and transportation
  • Courses: Academic transfer and professional/technical courses
  • Schedule: Fall, Winter, Spring, and Summer quarters (8-10 weeks)
  • Placement: Must meet class prerequisites
  • Application Process: Submit the EvCC general application and follow the underage admissions process.

Youth Re-Engagement (U3)

For students ages 16-20 who do not have a high school diploma. Students in U3 can earn a high school diploma and a college degree. The program pays for tuition, books, and required supplies. 

  • Eligible Students: Ages 16-20 without a high school diploma. Running Start students are not eligible for this program. 
  • Location: EvCC main campus in Everett for your first quarter, and any EvCC location after that.
  • Cost: Free
  • Courses: Academic transfer and professional/technical courses
  • Schedule: Fall, Winter, and Spring quarters (8-10 weeks)
  • Placement: Minimum 8th-grade reading level
  • Application Process: Attend an information meeting and complete the application packet. An orientation assessment will determine eligibility.

High School Completion

For students 16 years and older who do not have a high school diploma. Take high school or college-level classes to meet state high school graduation requirements. 

  • Eligible Students: Ages 16+ without a high school diploma. Running Start students are not eligible for this program. 
  • Location: EvCC main campus in Everett 
  • Cost: Tuition and fees; Transitional Studies courses are $25. Textbooks are provided in some classes.
  • Courses: Academic transfer and professional/technical courses
  • Schedule: Fall, Winter, Spring, and Summer quarters (8-10 weeks)
  • Placement: Must meet with a High School Completion Advisor and submit a high school transcript to Transitional Studies. Students may need to take the CASAS test. 
  • Application Process: Submit the EvCC general application. Obtain an official copy of your high school transcripts and meet with a High School Completion Advisor.

Advanced Placement (AP), College Level Examination Program (CLEP), and International Baccalaureate scores

If you've taken an Advanced Placement (AP), College Level Examination Program (CLEP), or International Baccalaureate exam, you may be able to use your score for credit toward your EvCC degree. A maximum of 60 AP, CLEP, and IB credits may be applied toward our degrees, meeting either requirements or electives, at the discretion of the credential evaluator and/or program advisor.
