EVERETT, Wash. – The National Alliance of Concurrent Enrollment Partnerships (NACEP) has re-accredited Everett Community College’s College in the High School program, which allows high school students to earn college credit at their schools.

NACEP accreditation validates the quality of college courses offered in high schools and ensures that the course content and expectations for student work match the standards of the sponsoring post-secondary institution.

EvCC’s College in the High school program was offered at 40 high schools this year, with more than 2,900 students earning college credit to date.

The program gives students the opportunity to earn college credit while simultaneously earning high school credit for approved advanced high school courses.

“Everett High School has so many College in the High School classes, my daughter accidentally earned her associate degree when she graduates from high school,” said EvCC Biology Instructor Jeff Fennell. “College in the High School was awesome for her.”

The courses are taught by qualifying high school teachers, who work closely with EvCC faculty mentors to ensure that the work the students perform in the high school course is equivalent to a similar course taught at EvCC.

“Witnessing firsthand the impact of EvCC’s commitment to Snohomish County’s students, I am known to gush about what a valuable homegrown resource EvCC is. It is a proud moment to see us continue to get the recognition we deserve from national accreditors!” said Judy-Gail Baker, who teaches College in the High classes at Henry M. Jackson High School and is an adjunct faculty member for the University of Washington.

EvCC was one of 10 colleges and universities nationwide that earned re-accreditation from NACEP. Nationwide, NACEP has 134 accredited programs spanning 26 states.

NACEP’s standards ensure parity in faculty, course content, student outcomes and support. Receiving re-accreditation means EvCC has met the nation’s most rigorous standard in concurrent enrollment program development, management and evaluation across multiple, multifaceted program areas.

Re-accreditation is valid for seven years, during which time programs commit to uphold NACEP’s standards and report annually on program practices.

To earn accreditation, concurrent enrollment programs conduct a self-study, document how their programs adhere to NACEP’s 17 standards, and are evaluated by peer reviewers from NACEP-accredited programs. The standards were developed and refined over many years, serve as a model for quality standards in 16 states, and are implemented by a wide range of higher education institutions.
