Advising

If you have general questions about the Health Sciences programs, you can call or text them to 425-388-9461 during business hours or email the Health Professions Service Center at healthprofessions@everettcc.edu. We can answer your questions about immunizations, background checks, prerequisites, medical assisting and phlebotomy.

Current Student Advising

Students can make health sciences advising appointments through the college Starfish system. Use this Introduction to Starfish document to set up a profile and learn how to use the system. Check the Starfish Health Sciences Appointment calendar. Advising appointments are only made through the Starfish system. If you do not see any available appointments, please contact the Health Professions Service Center for assistance. No appointments will be available during quarterly breaks.

Advising sessions are limited in time, so we highly recommend gathering as much information as possible through our website and coming prepared with specific questions and goals for the appointment.

Advising Notes

  • If you have any arrests or convictions in your background, please discuss this with your advisor to determine whether it could impact your ability to work in the medical field.
  • Advising Confirmation emails go to student email by default, log into Starfish to update, and forward emails to a preferred email. How to forward Starfish emails to a preferred email. Starfish resources page/Starfish video on how to.
  • Advising starts the 6th week of each quarter. If you need to cancel an appointment, please do so as early as possible to open that availability to others. There is no waitlist at this time.

Immunizations and Background Checks

Students in the medical assistant and phlebotomy technician programs must complete immunizations before starting lab classes. You must also complete background checks during your final quarter.

Immunization Policy

  1. Students must have all immunizations completed prior to enrolling in HLTH 231 (Surgical Skills) or HLTH 232 (Clinical Microbiology). Use the immunization guide to keep track.
  2. The only exception to this new policy is the completion of the Hepatitis requirement. You must have at least two doses of the Hepatitis B series.
  3. Completion of the Hepatitis B series and titer are required prior to enrolling in the Pre-Extern Group courses (HLTH 241, 242, and 243)
  4. Phlebotomy Students: You must have all immunizations (including completion of the Hepatitis B series and titer) prior to enrolling in HLTH 220.
  5. These immunizations may take up to eight months to complete, so get going on them now!

Immunization and Background Check Procedure

The Medical Assistant program uses Complio  for immunization documentation storage and approval and background checks. You must create a Complio account and complete the Criminal Background Check in order to receive a permission code to register for HLTH 251. Here’s how:

  1. Use the Complio Guide to create a student account.
  2. If you plan to take the Pre-Extern Group (PEG) classes, upload your immunization records into this system in order to receive a permission code for these classes.
  3. Please look over the Clinical Passport  Clinical Passport Tutorial , and TB information  letter before visiting your health care provider for clarification on the immunizations required. Also note that the Hepatitis B immunizations and testing can take up to eight months to complete, if you have never had any vaccinations in this series.
  4. You will be notified by your instructor when to start your Criminal Background Check, which will occur during PEG classes. The background check starts at $60 and can increase if you have lived in several counties or states. It is valid for six months from the completion date.
  5. If you need health insurance, use this link to learn about your options.
