Body Acceptance 101 – A Talk Hosted By Kacey Spivey

April 19
2:30pm
to
3:30pm

Did you know?

  • 97% of women have at least one negative thought about their body image every single day
  • 95% of college age men are dissatisfied with their bodies on some level
  • Eating disorders affect at least 9% of the population worldwide and have the highest mortality rate of all psychiatric diseases.
  • More than half of LGBTQ+ youth have been diagnosed with an eating disorder at some point in their lives
  • BIPOC (Black, Indigenous and People of Color) with eating disorders are half as likely to be diagnosed or receive treatment.

Today's technological society makes it very easy for us to find ourselves making comparisons to Photoshopped models and influencers we see on social media.  Aditionally, the number of people who have mental health struggles has grown rapidly in our society; most dealing with how individuals perceive their bodies and themselves. Recognizing the significance of this issue, the Trojan Activities Board brings Body Acceptance 101 to campus!

Written and created by Kacey Spivey, Body Acceptance 101 youtube is an educational interactive talk with comedic elements that will provide practical steps to embrace your body while operating in a world that profits from our insecurities. Kacey is in recovery from her own eating disorder and shares firsthand what many people go through.

Join us at Jackson Center, at 2:30 pm on Wednesday, April 19, 2023 and learn more about weight biases, toxic positivity, and the symptoms of disordered eating, all of which are important first steps to body acceptance. At the end of this event, a Q&A session will be hosted by both Kacey and a licensed EvCC counselor.

Everett Community College Counseling & Student Success (CSS) offers appointments for currently enrolled students or returning students with professional counselors for Career Counseling, Academic/Educational Counseling, Advising, and free short-term counseling, as well as referral to community resources to help students adjust to, cope with, and succeed in college. You can contact them via phone number at 425-388-9263 or via email at counseling@everettcc.edu

to
2:00pm

Every Friday until the end of the quarter the Ethical Hacking Team from S.T.E.M. club will be holding a Python coding workshop and tech hangout in Shuksan Hall, Room 130 from 10 a.m. till 2 p.m.! This is FREE, and no prerequisites required! Come by, bring a friend, have a great time!

STEM Club Discord: https://discord.gg/EfqEWSH5XQ

This club is for students who are in the STEM degree, and has multiple "sub-teams" under the entire club, that would then work on their own projects. During the meetings, we would cover what each group has accomplished, and each group would have their own team leads to cover it. Its purpose is that it gives experience to students in STEM through projects. We also go on quarterly trips as a team, to learn more about STEM in general.

The STEM club includes the Ethical Hacking & Cyber Security project team, a safe environment for students to learn about the inner workings of a computer and how to exploit their systems. This project team meets to talk about security and how to exploit operating systems in an ethical manner and on authorized networks, with the ideals of IT-280 ethics.
