The Washington State Center of Excellence for Aerospace and Advanced Materials Manufacturing has received a grant from The Boeing Company to work with employers to create mechatronics internships for low-income students. The Center, located at Everett Community College, will build a web portal to match students with employer internships, encourage more employers to offer students work experience and share strategies with employers in four regional meetings.  “Students need practice applying technical knowledge outside of the lab while building a career network, developing critical thinking skills and honing other workplace soft-skills that all employers look for in a job candidate,” said Mary Kaye Bredeson, Executive Director of the Washington State Center of Excellence for Aerospace and Advanced Materials Manufacturing.

Everett Community College is celebrating National Manufacturing Day today by announcing a $2.5 million expansion of the college’s Advanced Manufacturing Training & Education Center (AMTEC). The expansion will add 17,000 square feet to AMTEC, which is home to the college’s precision machining, welding and fabrication, engineering technician, composites and pre-employment programs. The new space includes eight classrooms and a lab for EvCC’s new mechatronics technician program. Construction will start in April 2016.

Everett Community College joins Boeing’s AerosPACE program 

EVERETT, Wash. – Everett Community College is the first community college in the nation to join five universities in a Boeing-led collaboration to close the skills gap in aerospace engineering.

Everett Community College is the first community college in the nation to join five universities in a Boeing-led collaboration to close the skills gap in aerospace engineering. EvCC is the newest partner in AerosPACE (Aerospace Partners for the Advancement of Collaborative Engineering) along with Purdue, Georgia Institute of Technology, Tuskegee, BrighamYoung and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical Universities. Boeing created the program in 2013 to help the next generation of aerospace employees learn through real-life collaboration on a project.
