Running Start in Prof-Tech

Running Start students can participate in our professional and technical (prof-tech) programs or take prof-tech college-level courses tuition-free. Our prof-tech programs are designed to help students with technical and related skills for successful degree completion and employment in high-demand occupations.

Running Start applicants are still required to complete the Running Start online application and enrollment process even if they are pursuing a prof-tech program. Review our Future/New Running Start Students page for more information.

Things to Consider for Prof-Tech Programs as a Running Start Student

  • Prof-tech courses may satisfy a few high school graduation requirements. 
  • Work closely with your high school counselor to ensure you are on track to graduate from high school. 
  • Some prof-tech courses may have additional course fees - certificate fee, material fee, malpractice insurance - or require classes below 100 level that are not covered by Running Start or the Running Start fee waiver.
  • If you intend to earn the Associate in Technical Arts (ATA) or Associate in Applied Science by the time you graduate from high school, it is possible that you may need to go over your Running Start quarter credit eligibility and pay tuition.
  • If you earn the ATA or Associate in Applied Science degree, it can transfer to some public universities in Washington state. Check with the institution!

Advanced Manufacturing

In our Advanced Manufacturing Training and Education Center (AMTEC), students are prepared for a career in modern manufacturing technology and how to use innovative technology to create products and improve processes.

AMTEC programs include Composites, Engineering Technology, Mechatronics/ Maintenance Technician, Precision Machining, Welding and Fabrication.

Things to Consider for Advanced Manufacturing

  • You are required to meet with high school counselors for high school graduation requirements. Advanced manufacturing courses will not satisfy your high school course requirements.
  • You may be required to purchase tools and equipment for a program.
  • You can pursue a certificate or ATA degree in any of the AMTEC programs.
  • The majority of AMTEC courses are in person in North Everett.

Business Technology and Accounting & Bookkeeping

Our Business Technology program prepares students with the basic knowledge and skills necessary for entry-level office positions, as well as advanced courses and internship experience for higher levels of employment. Students take courses in business technology, general business, and computer literacy. 

The Accounting and Bookkeeping program prepares students to enter the field of accounting with a foundation in accounting software and principles of accounting.

Things to Consider for Business Technology and Accounting & Bookkeeping 

  • You are required to meet with high school counselors for high school graduation requirements. Courses will not satisfy all your high school course requirements.
  • Accounting and Business courses may have a material or certification fee not covered by the Running Start fee waiver.
  • You can pursue a Bookkeeping or Business Technology certificate. You can also pursue an Accounting ATA or Business Technology ATA degree.

Cosmetology

The EvCC Cosmetology program meets the requirements for both theory and practical applications in hair care, skin care, and nail care services. Students are prepared for meeting the 1730 credited clock hours and the Washington State licensing examinations.

Things to Consider for Cosmetology

  • You are required to meet with high school counselors for high school graduation requirements. Cosmetology courses will not satisfy your high school course requirements.
  • Your first year in Cosmetology can be part-time (12:00PM - 4:00PM). 
  • You can start the program either in Fall or Winter quarter.
  • You are required to make high cost one time purchases that are not covered by the Running Start program or Running Start fee waiver. 
  • You will need to take and pay for MATH 060 Professional/Technical Math (3 credits) as part of the Cosmetology ATA degree. 
  • You are required to attend Cosmetology courses in Marysville.

Graphic Design & Web Design

Graphic designers use art and technology to communicate ideas. Students learn how to design for interactive media, organize projects, work productively, and prepare for a career in the field of graphic and web design.

Things to Consider for Graphic Design & Web Design

  • You are required to meet with high school counselors for high school graduation requirements. Classes will not satisfy your high school course requirements.
  • You can pursue a Graphic Design or Web Design certificate or a Graphic and Web Design ATA degree.

Health Science Programs

Our prof-tech programs in Health Science prepare students for employment readiness in a variety of career options in hospital administration, health education, or direct patient care. 

Healthcare programs include Medical Assistant, Medical Billing and Coding, and Medical Spanish Interpreter.

Things to Consider for Health Science Programs

Information Technology

Our Information Technology (IT) program offers degrees and certificates in computer support, systems and network administration, cyber security, and cloud-based software and services.

Things to Consider for IT

  • You are required to meet with high school counselors for high school graduation requirements. Courses will not satisfy your high school course requirements.
  • IT courses may have a material or certification fee not covered by the Running Start fee waiver.
  • You are required to complete an IT internship.
  • You can pursue up to four IT related certificates or an IT ATA or IT Associate in Arts and Sciences Transfer degree.

Public Safety

Our Public Safety programs prepare students for careers in public service and safety.
